News Release: 2008-067 April 22, 2008

NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena , Calif. , will welcome members of the public to its Open House on Saturday, May 3, and Sunday, May 4. Children will be able to participate in many hands-on activities.

At this free, all-day event, visitors can watch 700-pound robots glide under artificial stars in JPL's Robodome, get an up-close view of full-scale models of Mars rovers, and learn how spacecraft are prepared for their journeys in special clean rooms.

They will see numerous solar system, robotics and Earth science exhibits and learn about various space missions, including the Mars Phoenix Lander, scheduled to land on the Red Planet on May 25. Visitors can also see how NASA instruments measure greenhouse gases, which will help scientists better understand global climate change.

JPL's Open House begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. on both days. JPL is located at 4800 Oak Grove Drive , Pasadena , Calif. Parking is free.

Please note that all vehicles entering NASA/JPL property are subject to inspection. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes -- no buses will be provided from JPL parking lots to the lab. JPL will provide vans for mobility-challenged guests.

Please note that the following items are banned from entering NASA/JPL property: weapons, explosives, incendiary devices, dangerous instruments, alcohol, illegal drugs, pets, all types of skates including skateboards, Segways and bicycles. No bags, backpacks or ice chests are allowed, except small purses and diaper bags.

More information on JPL's Open House is online at www.jpl.nasa.gov/pso/oh.cfm .

Directions to JPL are at www.jpl.nasa.gov/about_JPL/maps.cfm .

I highly recommend it to everybody.
I've been there once, in 2006, and I had a blast. Come a little earlier than the time indicated, for you are not the only ones, trust me.
They showed us the place where they test different ways for the Spirit and Opportunity, and then go to the mission control and send the directions to the robots on Mars. Cool.
They had a life-size copy of one right on the front porch doing stuff. They showed all kinds of shops where some stuff is being made, movies, videos, the place where they assemble and "pack" the machines into the "capsules" before they go to launch pad, and a whole bunch of other stuff.
Excitements for a whole day. For kids (and Serge) simply a blast.

If you are anywhere around L.A. that weekend, I have only one word for you - Go.
    You will not regret it.

P.S. Food is way overpriced, though, and the lines to get it are too long (in the So. Cal. sun), so, plan accordingly. Parents, keep a bottle of water for kids always - the Caltech interns are too fucking dumb to let a father get a tiny little bottle for his 4 year-old daughter in his hands, when she is about to faint from the heat; they tell him to go and get in line "like everyone else"; (god damn it, I got so pissed at that moment, what a stupid m@%$@%, f@!#%!#. I had to look into the side walk not to say anything. I can still see those two stupid faces. A few old ladies almost yelled at them to give him the water). (I know, I know, I'm drifting off topic, sorry, just this particular memory stood up "before my eyes")
It gets real hot down there in the summer (Pasadena). Hotter than in the downtown L.A., and they are 20 miles away from each other.

This would be the only inconvenience.

If you talk to any of the administration, let them know a whole lot of people are onto their deception. We Know they don't really design "Jets". (and rocket propulsion is just a cover technology for the advanced Zero Point Energy systems that are in use)

Techno-Wonderworld, where water will be rationed on a first-come, first-served basis, and only if you possess monetary credits for purchase of it, or actually become symptomatic.

I love the smell of PR, and the dryness of mouth waiting for the controlled administration of fluids (amid the glistening expensive machinery) in the morning.

You will not be inconvenienced by the troublesome complexities of the Whole Story. It is so much easier that way.....

Pssht, everyone knows NASA is just schilling for our Reptilian overlords, while they harvest intergalactic sex slaves~!!!

I have been to the JPL Open House for the last 5 years in a row. It is absolutely awesome!!!

I agree with Serge: GET THERE EARLY!!! The lines are long, but the payoff is great!!!

As to Hoagland...I once thought his theories were fascinating, but he's turned out to be just another parapsych. huckster giving lectures that are overpriced and regurgitating the same conspiracy crap year after year.

The people that work at JPL are REAL PEOPLE with REAL PROJECTS under a TINY BUDGET. One of my best friends works there. He is not a government spook, he is not working on Black Ops for the Masonic Masters from Mars. Honest. JPL is about trying to get our arses out of LEO, and doing a damn fine job of it, with not enough funding and a society that is largely oblivious to their cause. I WISH we really had the technology that Hoagland claims we do, but unfortunately, it's just old nuts and bolts and us, trying our hardest to escape the gravity well...

So I say GO!!! Buy a t-shirt and a coffee mug, learn about what it takes to survive on Mars, and speak to a real live rocket scientist. They will tell you, quite truthfully, that the two main things preventing us from REALLY exploring Cydonia are: MONEY and WILL. Well, okay, and bone marrow loss and cosmic radiation and so on...

Support the space program, such as it is. It's definitely a worthy cause, kids...

Sure there are lots of honest people in JPL, who are not in the loop.

There's no reason to give such a misassessment of Richard Hoagland's work, just because the people you know at JPL appear to be working at a legitimate level of not know the whole story. Hoagland's work is backed up by verifiable information and photographs from what NASA has presented (in its own distorted way). It's very unscientific to condemn him without taking a serious look at what he has published.... and to dismiss the Many perceptive people who have given his work a thorough going over, and found it to carry the ring of truth throughout.

I just hate to see the kinds of bright people who are here dismiss the Whole story based on it being "inconvenient" to have knowledge of the bigger picture.

Much like Richard Hoagland, I pay little attention to sources that have no verifiable context. There is a huge body of material that does have significant cross-corroboration and solid context.

<<Sure there are lots of honest people in JPL, who are not in the loop.>>

And these are the people who, I would presume, will be in attendance at the Open House. So, I don't see the problem.

<<There's no reason to give such a misassessment of Richard Hoagland's work, just because the people you know at JPL appear to be working at a legitimate level of not know the whole story. You misunderstand me. I am not dismissing Hoagland's work just because I know someone who works at JPL. I used to be strong backer of Hoagland's going way, way back to the mid 1990's. I listened to and recorded several of his interviews on the old Art Bell Coast to Coast show. I have also listened with some interest to Tom VanFlandern's interviews. But when Cydonia got imaged over and over and over and looked more and more like a jumbled bunch of rocks to me, I had to ask myself just how many excuses I needed in order to keep think of it as "artificial". I read "The Monuments of Mars" and used to believe in Hoagland's geometric assertions, but given clearer shots, the angles are no longer what he claims them to be. Perhaps I was too harsh in describing Hoagland as a "huckster", because a huckster knows he's pulling the wool over your eyes. I really think Hoagland believes his claims...so at least he's being honest with himself.

Nonetheless, Cydonia is a very interesting site, one I would DEFINITELY like explored, by humans on the ground on Mars. Up close and personal.

<<I just hate to see the kinds of bright people who are here dismiss the Whole story based on it being "inconvenient" to have knowledge of the bigger picture.>>

Okay, so by that maxim, let's not throw out the JPL baby with the bath bathwater either. I know that Hoagland claims we already have zero point energy systems and such, but JUST IN CASE he's wrong, and just in case these "low level" scientists are actually working on projects that do matter (which, in my view they most certainly are), I would urge anyone not in on the conspiracy to attend. Since "they" will never fess up to this conspiracy, (and believe me, I've been waiting for over a decade...and Hoagland's been waiting for over 3 decades...)then we might as well get interested in what they WILL allow us to know. It's free and open to the public, for goodness sake!!!

All those issues are addressed in Dark Mission in exquisite details.... all the manipulations designed to make it appear as if the details amounted to nothing........ you owe it to yourself to get a copy if you've invested that much time on Hoagland's work..... He freakin' Delivers on it All!

              Serge,

this video has zero connection to quantum physics.

do not make me delete you.

in fact, this kind of posting is probably a violation of Jedi code,

and may even put your hope to find true love in danger.

                To Jon:

                (widely smiling)

Yes, yes, I understand. I didn't want to post it, but then, I went to youtube to look up some more stuff for Leslie and I came across this.
(It really (and I mean really freaked me out)) I don't know why, but, holy Jeebus (with a "b") I wasn't myself for a second or two there, it's true.

I understand if you take it off (along with this posting I'm typing). It is indeed OT.
